Cooler today with showers and thunderstorms for NJ metro

Latest post: 9:30am - 5/11/2013

After temperatures around 80 degrees on Friday, a weather front has greeted the Garden state for the start of the weekend...

Skies remain mostly cloudy today, and temperatures are expected to top out between 70 and 75 degrees.  Showers are mostly confined to southern NJ this morning, but will become more widespread in coverage for the rest of NJ/NYC and Long Island this afternoon. Some locally heavy downpours and gusty winds are possible.

The rain will end early tonight -- between 7pm and 9pm -- and then skies become partly cloudy after midnight.  Lows fall into the 50s for most areas.

** Mothers Day Sunday has brighter skies returning... **
Temperatures are expected to be cooler, along with a gusty breeze, reaching 30mph at times. Highs reach between 65 and 70 degrees.
Sunday night will be mainly clear and chilly, as temperatures drop into the lower and middle 40s.

Monday and Tuesday, to start the new work-week, has sunshine and cool temperatures in the forecast. Highs only top out in the lower 60s.

Wednesday looks warmer, with a chance for showers in the afternoon.
A better chance of rain looks to arrive by Thursday.
