It is likely that the area will stay dry through midnight.

More updates as necessary.

5:10pm NJ metro radar update

The showers in eastern Pennsylvania have weakened.

There are still many showers and t-storms in NY State, and northern Pennsylvania...
These will be monitored over the next several hours to see if they survive, and perhaps make into NW New Jersey between 8 and 9pm.

Labor Day weekend forecast update for NJ metro

Latest post: 5:10pm -- 8/20/2013

A weather front will be affecting the area over the next few days...

The work-week ended nicely, as high pressure remained in control...
Temperatures this evening will drop into the 70s under a partly cloudy sky.
Some patchy fog is possible after midnight, with the low falling into the mid- 60s in the suburbs, and around 70 for New York City.

** The forecast for the next two days is straight-forward:
A shower or thunderstorm is possible each afternoon for Saturday and Sunday **
Radar images will best determine where these storms are, and the locations that have an opportunity to get wet **

The best chance on Saturday will be for north-western NJ later in the day and in the evening - but this is maintained at 30%.
The rest of NJ, NYC and Long Island will be included in a 30-percent probability for a shower or thunderstorm on Saturday night.

By Sunday, this next weather front is forecast to be closer to the region, but the majority of the weather models are indicating only scattered showers and thunderstorms for the area. All locations on Sunday have about a 40% chance to get wet.

Labor Day Monday has a likely chance for heavy showers and thundershowers for the entire area (70% chance).

Temperatures through this period will be between 80 and 85 degrees -- with high levels of humidity.

Sunshine and less humid weather returns for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

*** At this time, there is no need to cancel out-door plans for Saturday and Sunday.***
Monday is likely to be wet enough to keep activities in-doors. ***

Updates will certainly be posted in the coming days.
