Friday night weather update for NJ metro

Posted: 12:40am -- 1/18/2014

Temperatures have dropped slightly lower than models have indicated... but should remain above freezing for much of the region overnight into Saturday morning.
Precipitation developing an hour or two ahead of schedule..

Based on the latest radar and model data, some light rain or light rain/snow will continue in southern NJ, and then spread north into central NJ and into NYC between by around 2am, and into northern and northwestern NJ around 3am. A second area of light rain and snow is expected for Long Island by 3am as well.

I will not stray much from my earlier thinking that most areas in NJ/NYC and Long Island will see wet roadways ... or a slushy accumulation, mainly on grassy surfaces.
North-western counties in NJ, such as Sussex and Warren, still appear to have the best chance for a coating of snow...

If you are traveling overnight or early tomorrow morning west and north into the Catskills and/or the Poconos, 1 - 3 inches of snow is expected for these locations.

All precipitation is forecast to end between 10 - 11am.

More on the next weather system for Sunday and the arctic air for next week in my next post.
